Feels like the first time

Posted in Uncategorized on December 18, 2011 by shiznittaz

It’s been a while – about a year – since I’ve knitted. And now I’ve got some yarn, new needles, some buttons and cold wether. So gonna start some arm warmers for my wife.

She picked out the colors. I dont think she likes my signature colors of blaze orange and avacado green.

I haven’t the clue how to cast on, off, etc. anymore. So I’m going to pull up some You Tube videos to get back in the swing of things.

Now that I live in Blowing Rock, NC, I think I’ll have more incentive to knit. Esp. if commissioned work picks up like it was a few years back.

Peace

So I just learned about Freakers. And this Guy:

Zach Crain

He has abounding personality and has used the power of knitting for good – not evil.

We, in turn, should do him a good turn!

Visit his kickstarter page and help contribute to his, and — through extension — your own success!

Man scarf!

Posted in Uncategorized on January 26, 2011 by shiznittaz

My wife and I got into a fight last night over my scarf. (A pea-green heavy knit acrylic blend with day-glow orange stripes at one end.)

She keeps throwing it on the floor.

I told her she better stop doing that.

“It’s too scratchy. I hate it!” she said.

IT’S A MAN SCARF Beee-UTCH! It’s supposed to be scratchy! Scratchy enough to make your neck BLEED YOUR HEAD OFF!

Inducted & Incarcerated 2010

It’s Too $hort of course.

My friend Liz passed this news along to me. Basically my boy $hort gets himself into a bunch of stupid trouble at a Boise ID night club.

And the name of the nightclub? The Boise Knitting Factory!

Life Is…

Yay! Free yarn.

Thanks David for the free yarn. I now have three really big rolls (skines?) of the bluest blue, whitest white, and reddest red yarn I’ve ever seen. You might think that I’d be tempted to knit a flag or something like that, but you’d be mistaken. I don’t know how to to do stars. We’ll see what happens this October when it gets dark again and I learn how to knit all over again.

By the way, what’s up with all these girls asking me about Shiz Nittaz? Yes, we are men who knit! No, you can’t join. Now step OFF!

Where ya at?

I have totally forgotten how to knit. That’s OK. It’ll give me something “new” to start again this fall when daylight starts to wain.

I’ve still been doing a little reading about knitting. Did you know that it has shown to help stave off dimentia? It’s also been shown to help lower your blood pressure. Something about the mindless repetitive motion causes your body to release some sort of “comfort” chemical.

I don’t know about that last one. Since the last time I remember knitting, I was getting pretty worked up because I couldn’t cast off right.

As I was saying, it’s pretty much Summer now. And I can’t (don’t want to) find the time to knit. I’ve got daylight now and plan on using every bit of it being outside. Besides, a nice wooly scarf just doesn’t get me motivated in the Summertime.

Maybe I’m being closed-minded. If you’ve got some killer Summer knitting ideas, share ‘em.

But if not, It may not be until October before you hear from me regularly again!

Almost a t-shirt

Posted in Uncategorized on April 1, 2009 by shiznittaz

I thought I’d try tagging a t-shirt with the gang logo. So I cut out our logo and spray painted it onto an old shirt I had. The cool part is that the spray painted area still smells like lacquer and it’s kind of stiff. I was hoping that it would give me a cool logo shaped rash, but it didn’t even itch.

Overall I’m not too stoked with the results. I thought it’d look pretty O.G., but it actually just looks cheap and stupid. So I’m going to try and find a place that can do a custom gold glitter logo iron-on. I’m talking about a fully ice’d out gold glitter – with legit metal glitter flakes.

I’ll keep you all posted.

Pimpin’

I sold my first comissioned “Cell Phone Jimmy Hat” the other day. Custom sized for an iPhone in puffy green with blaze orange tassles. I totally kicked it freestyle on the tassles and they turned out AWESOME!

Being a nittin’ G, I thought I should try robbing the iPhone, but I chickened out at the end. I’m Still planning on setting up a way to offer this stuff online.

Mmmmkay, now I’m just makin’ stuff

After my last project, I decided to actually swatch. This is a huge personal defeat for me. I’ve always kicked it freestyle.

I just didn’t knit some worthless swatch though. I turned my swatch into a cell phone sleeve. Then I decorated it with killer little blaze orange dots. So now I know what I need to do to get the right size for my wife’s holster, plus I’ve got a little sleeve of my own.

I think I’ll call it the “Cell Phone Jimmy Hat”

By the way, I’ve gotten some actual commissions for knitted merch. That plus some requests for t-shirts and stickers. Be on the lookout for a products section here soon.

Finally done. Not what I thought.

That hat I’ve been knitting for a month… I finished it last night.

It’s not quite what I expected. It’s half of what I expected as a matter of fact!

For some reason the thing turned out duper small. I mean it fits my three year old. I don’t even know how it happened. I swear I measnured the thing like 100 times.

Oh well. My little girl loves it and has named it her “happy hat”. Here’s my little girls hat.

The hat formerly known as “The hat that I spent 40 hours knitting for MYSELF!”
